Need a job? The bilingual job fair presented by Dos Mundos Newspaper and Univision may be the answer. On Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jack Reardon Center in Kansas City, Kan. dozens of employers will be answering questions and accepting applications and resumes. The positions range from entry level to management. All levels and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Although it is a bilingual job fair, applicants don’t have to speak Spanish.
This is the second job fair for Univision. Two adjoining rooms at the center will be filled with tables for the various companies. In the center a round table will allow applicants to fill out forms. The employers represent a broad spectrum. Last time a few of the companies involved were H&R Block, UMKC, McDonalds, Verizon Wireless and two car dealerships.
“The demand for bilingual employees has grown,” said Diana Raymer from Dos Mundos. The job fair allows area companies to “seek out and find those qualified,” she said.
In the morning the companies will enjoy a coffee bar and at noon will be served a lunch buffet. A snack and refreshment table will be open to applicants all day. Participates may bring their children, and at the end of the fair, door prizes will be awarded.
Shelley Bowles from Univision suggests that job hunters “dress for success.” Résumés are recommended but not required. Be prepared to fill out an application, and have all the necessary information. Dos Mundos and Univision will be compiling a CD of everyone who brings a résumé to distribute to the employers.
Last fair brought between five and six hundred job seekers and 30 companies. “We’ve heard very positive remarks from the companies and the applicants,” Bowles said.
